LINHILL Celtic Football Club successfully hosted the 2018 Regional Districts Tournament over the weekend of September 15 and 16 which comprised of the Northerns, Southerns, Easterns, Rand Central and the Pretoria local football associations.
Linhill hosted this tournament on behalf of the Southern Local Football Association (SLFA).
Some interesting stats about the tournament:
• The tournament included 48 teams from u-10s to u-19s and ladies.
• Five association committees were in attendance.
• 720 players played each day.
• 96 coaches and managers attended to their teams.
• 30 match officials officiated (referees and assistant referees).
• 128 games were played over the two days.
• Well over 4 000 friends, family and supporters enjoyed the two days of youth football.
The new field that was added also attracted attention which ensured the fixtures were on time and all games were played without congestion.
SLFA chairperson Iain Dale said people who had not visited the club in some years were extremely impressed with the achievements and the ability Linhill demonstrated in being able to successfully host this prestigious event. They expressed awe and amazement that what was previously a car park was turned into a fully functional playing field and that this transition was essentially achieved in two and half weeks. What a great compliment and testament to what can be done within the community they serve.
“Without the collaboration and the kindness extended by Calgro M3, Standard Bank and Lonerock Construction this event could never have taken place at Linhill. The local community will continue to enjoy the new field and we will be welcoming more new players in seasons to come.
“A special word of thanks to Zelna van der Walt (Calgro M3) and Donet van Wyk (Lonerock Construction) who were instrumental in carrying out the construction and Calgro M3 and Standard Bank for the very generous financial commitment,” explained Iain.
